Proposed licensing reforms fail to deliver, says Armstrongs – Big Rigs

  • Post category:News

Our CEO Craig Nicholson has been advocating for many years for proper reform to training and licensing in the #transport industry.

Since 2016, Armstrongs has been running the Driver Delivery Program (DDP), which provides heavy vehicle licensees with the skills, knowledge, and appropriate level of training to be able to drive a heavy vehicle in a safe and low risk manner.

Craig recently submitted extensive feedback to Austroads and Frontier Economics on their National Heavy Vehicle Driver Competency Framework (NHVDCF), outlining why their proposed minimum behind-the-wheel periods are highly insufficient for producing safe, competent, low risk and employable drivers.

Reform to licensing in our transport sector is urgently needed – however, it needs to be significant and meaningful enough to truly protect our communities on the roads as well as solve the employment challenges facing the sector.
